Mark Oldroyd

Mark Oldroyd has recently completed some paintings for use in a forthcoming exhibition at the new visitors centre at Millford House in Jesmond Dene, Tyne and Wear. The centre will open in December 2010, in time to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Tyneside industrialist and inventor Lord William Armstrong.  Born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1810, Armstrong was the inventor of the hydraulic crane and the 'Armstong Gun', as well as being an early advocate of renewable energy. He and his wife were instrumental in creating a woodland garden along the sides of the Jesmond Dene valley, now a public park. The exhibition will track the lives and achievements of both Lord and Lady Armstrong.
