Congratulations go to Arena illustrator Thomas Flintham and author Pamela Burchard for winning the 6-8 category for A Monster Ate My Packed Lunch.
The Laugh Out Loud Book Awards (the Lollies) is run by Scholastic and celebrates the best and funniest Children’s book in the UK and Ireland. The Shortlist is chosen by a panel of writers, illustrators, teachers and book experts but the winners are voted for by thousands of young readers across the country, with over 11,000 votes cast! The awards ceremony was screened virtually to schools across the country, hosted by author Ella McLeod and featured Head Judge Michael Rosen, author/illustrator duo Stephen and Anita Mangan, and author/illustrator Sarah Bowie.
Pamela and Tom have been shortlisted before for the Lollies in 2018 for their book, There’s a Werewolf in my Tent, so it’s extra special to have finally won this year. This fun series with its quirky characters, laugh-out-loud humour and a reassuringly familiar primary school has captured a loyal following of readers - A Monster Ate My Packed Lunch is the twelfth book of fourteen in total (so far) in the Baby Alien series, published by Nosy Crow.
Tom was super-excited about winning the award:
"A big thank you to everyone who voted for us ❤️ We love working on these books and it means the world to know the readers enjoy them too 🙂 Thank you”
