Our favourite festive author, Alex T. Smith is back with a retelling of this children’s classic story told in twenty-four-and-a-half chapters.

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’s Christmas Shenanigans, published by Macmillan, is a gorgeous festively foiled hardback, chock full of irresistible colour illustrations. This is the perfect advent gift to enjoy reading with your loved ones - a chapter each day in December.

The Mouse King is up to some very sneak shenanigans. The night before Christmas, he steals the key to the Kingdom of Sweets and sets out to cause as much festive mayhem as he can!

Clara and Fritz Strudel, and their new friend the Nutcracker, are the only ones who can stop him. But when a magical curse is put on Fritz, it’s a race against time to make it to the Kingdom of Sweets and find the Sugar Plum Fairy - the only one who can break the spell!

Alex tells us a little about the making of his new book:

“Working out how to do this was great fun!  I knew I wanted to make more of the Mouse King because I love a villain (particularly a really silly, not -the-sharpest-cheddar-on-the-cheeseboard type like my Mouse King, The Great Gorgonzola) and I also wanted to explore sibling relationships too.  I decided that Clara’s little brother, Fritz, would come along for the adventure to see how that addition could alter the original story.”
