Economist Magazine covers – Peter Crowther

This ‘Trumpification of American policy' cover was a finalist in the ASMEs for best conceptual cover.

The Trumpification cover used a 3D model for the tie and a surface set up to mimic the water and generate realistic reflections.Peter matched the perspective and focal length of the original shot and recreated the scene lighting. This cover was a finalist in the ASME’s - https://asme.memberclicks.net/asme-best-cover-contest-winners-and-finalists-2025. Art Direction by Ben Shmulevitch.

The deadlines for The Economist’s cover imagery are usually 3-4 days, sometimes less.

The first cover by Peter for The Economist was Game Changer. Like most of the others, this cover combines 3D modelling, rendering, and compositing. The others, The Trump Doctrine and All Grown Up, are purely retouching, image processing, and photomontage.

For Peter the imagery for The Economist covers makes an interesting change from fully 3D scenes and offer a different set of challenges.
