Leonie Bos and Lesley Barnes- Shortlisted for the AOI World Illustration Awards
Leonie's shortlisted image is an editorial illustration about the notorious Amsterdam food critic, the late Johannes van Dam. He was both loved and feared, his reviews could close down restaurants. Not mentioned in the article to be illustrated, but known to everyone was the fancy way he dressed. Leonie made this the starting point.
Lesley created a sheet of nine promotional Christmas stamps to send to clients, friends and family for the festive season 2018. Associating Christmas with sending out good wishes to all, and stamps seemed like the perfect way to communicate this. She wanted the design of the stamps to be appealing to all – however they celebrated their winter holiday.
The stamps were printed on traditional gummed paper with perforations, so they could be torn off from the sheet and used. She liked the idea that the stamp sheets enclosed with her own Christmas cards, could be used by the recipient on their own Christmas mail and sent on for others to enjoy. The illustrations were bright, festive and fun to help celebrate winter.
