Bill Sanderson Illustrates The Dictionary People

Phosphor are pleased to be able to share the artwork Bill Sanderson created for The Dictionary People: The unsung heroes of Oxford English Dictionary, a new book by Sarah Ogilvie which was published this September by Chatto & Windus.

Bill was pleased to be able to contribute his signature scratchboard style to this beautiful book, in which lexicographer, Sarah Ogilvie, dives deep into previously untapped archives to tell a people's history of the Oxford English Dictionary. Here, Sarah reveals, for the first time, the full story of the making of one of the most famous books in the world - and celebrates the extraordinary efforts of the Dictionary People.

Bill Sanderson works almost exclusively with scratchboard, with which he produces both black and white and full colour artwork. He has done drawings for many newspapers, journals, book publishers, designers and advertising agencies in Britain and also in Europe and the USA. In 2005 Bill shared first prize in the V&A annual Illustration Awards with the designer Steve Snider, for Book Cover and Jacket illustration.
