Whilst everyone is hoping for a Playstation 5 this Christmas, Walter Newton harks back to the glory days of 8bit goodness with this pixel-based Santa that wouldn’t be out of place on an 80’s Nintendo console.
Wishing you and yours a wonderful time during the festive season.
It has truly been an unprecedented year for us all, but despite all of the challenges we have faced in 2020 we have witnessed some wonderful projects in the world of illustration to brighten up our lives. Our artists have also kept us entertained throughout lockdown with their inspiring work including draw-a-long videos and contributions to collaborative projects dedicated to our amazing frontline NHS workers.
Wishing all our wonderful artists, friends and clients a safe, happy and festive winter. Thank you all for your hard work and support this year and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
Thank you to Natalie Smillie for our PEACE & JOY Christmas card this year. We’ll be launching Natalie in 2021.
Catherine Pearson was commissioned as part of this years Adobe MAX virtual event to create two downloadable wallpapers for attendees, as part of the CoCreate: Max illustration team.
As well as promoting the talents of established artists throughout the world, the SAA take pride in nurturing new talent as part of our Education Programme. Over the years we’ve invited creative graduates nationwide to attend portfolio surgeries, giving students an insight into what agents and commissioners look for in a portfolio and over the last few years we have started a mentorship programme.
We are very pleased to be involved with the Pathways Into Children’s Publishing which has been designed collaboratively by the House of Illustration and Pop Up Projects offering tuition, one-to-one mentoring and professional guidance to aspiring illustrators in the UK and abroad who are interested in getting into children’s publishing. This month SAA members Tamlyn Francis and Caroline Thomson from Arena Illustration took part in the Pathways Professional Day delivering a 30 minute webinar on Building a Profile and the importance of portfolios, online presence and self-promotion.
We continue to enjoy our long relationship with the Association of Illustrators and this month we’ve been very busy. SAA member agent Laura Lee from Debut Art chaired a talk called: Be Seen - Representation (what makes it a winning team, how they worked together) with Paperface (the previous winner of the SAA Agents Award for New Talent in 2019). This was part of a programme of webinars celebrating The World Illustration Awards 2020. SAA member agent Caroline Thomson from Arena Illustration is one of three agent mentors who are part of the AOI’s 2021 Mentorship scheme. This year the AOI are looking to support people under represented in the agenting field, either at the early stage of their agent career, or who are interested in becoming an agent.
Unfortunately 2020 delivers another blow for football fans with the sad passing of football legend Diego Maradona. Paul took it upon himself to create this portrait as a tribute to the FIFA Player of the 20th Century award winner.
The December issue of Harpers Magazine features Wall Street's answer to the student debt crisis which is the Income Sharing Agreement (ISA). The team at Harpers turned to Paul Blow to work his magic on a visual to accompany the report which we think has turned out rather nice indeed.
