Alex T Smith worked closely with Abbot Mead Vickers London BBDO, to create a picture book to be used in an animated viral for the charity Gingerbread.
Gingerbread works nationally and locally, for and with single parent families, to improve their lives. They try to achieve change and challenge the single parent stereotype by providing support services.
The key issue is that single parenthood is ‘a fact’. Research shows that the vast majority of kids growing up in single parent families do fine, but rather than applaud these parents for trying to do the job of two, we stereotype them – especially single mums.
Alex’s subtle illustrations help to educate against these stereotypes.

Maria Livings completed these stylish images for the Wine Society, where they will soon be splashed across the pages of their magazine and wine list.
The brief was to illustrate various aspects of the Sustainable Viticulture, Maria explains “The brief was very specific because wine buffs would probably notice if I'd included the wrong kind of creature or plant! It was a challenge to make some of the subjects decorative - a hedge for instance presented difficulties until I drew a leaping leveret in front of it.”
