The Talent Show by Michael Rosen, Illustrated by Kristyna Litten

As part of the Cultural Olympiad, Discover Children's Story Centre have teamed up with digital publisher WingedChariot to create 'StoryCloud', a web application for children from 5-8 years old. Discover commissioned twelve brand new stories and poems from some of the UK's leading children's authors and 12 top-flight illustrators were asked to create interactive illustrations in response to each story.
Kristyna Litten was delighted to be commissioned to illustrate The Talent Show by poet, author and former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen.
StoryCloud is a free nationwide digital project reaching children in their homes, schools and libraries throughout the twelve weeks of London 2012 Festival and beyond. Children will be able to listen and read along with the author telling the story and then play with the illustrations to discover hidden secrets and surprises. Each story will have tasks to encourage children to create their own stories and drawings in response to the twelve stories.
StoryCloud (www.storycloud.co.uk) will be launched on Monday 18 June by Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson, opening with The Talent Show.

SKANSKA Brochure Illustrations by Frances Castle

The international construction company Skanska, commissioned Frances Castle to illustrate a brochure about their newly refurbished 1980's office building, demonstrating the latest green and sustainable features that reduce costs for energy, water and maintenance operations.
The brief was very specific and complex, Skanska listed 24 different technologies and energy saving measures they wanted Frances to illustrate - not an easy task as there were no architects plans of the construction available as reference. She was given a tour of the Skanska site in Woking, Surrey and took lots of photographs of the numerous systems including the solar photovoltaic panels, rainwater harvesting for flushing the toilets and recycling. Then it was up to her to interpret these for the illustrations including a cut-away of the building. They also required symbols to accompany the text, illustrating energy, renewable energy, water, carbon, innovation etc.
