Alan Kitching was commissioned by The Folio Society to create the binding and a special accompanying bookmark for their edition of ‘The Stories of English’ by David Crystal, a landmark critical text examining how the English language became a rich, diverse global language.

Alan’s renown as a typographer made him a perfect fit for this linguistically-driven text, creating an impactful image with words highlighted from the book by the editor, expressing their history and meaning through letterforms.
