Alexander Jackson’s Illustrated Clapperboards

Phosphor's Alexander Jackson has had an unusual series of jobs lately, illustrating custom clapperboards for various TV productions. The latest, for an upcoming Channel 4 series called Number 10, which will star Jenna Coleman and Rafe Spall.

Alexander said: "The design features that iconic Downing Street brickwork and the famous black door" and that he "had to make sure it felt authentic for a show that takes you right into the heart of British politics".

Previously Alexander has worked on illustrated clapperboards for productions including Channel 5' Murder Before Evensong, and the BBC's Sister Boniface Mysteries and Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, which have featured in the mainstream press.

Originally trained in fine art and traditional painting techniques, Alexander Jackson went on to study Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art, where he developed a more graphical style. Influenced by pop-culture, film, music, animation and a very broad range of visual art, his work often deals with responding to mainstream media, while at the same time showing a keen interest in character.

He moves effortlessly across retouching, digital illustration, packaging and key art - joyfully applying his craft wherever bold visuals are required.

Lisa Sheehan – her book launch and exhibition at Début Art’s gallery

Lisa has produced a 248-page hardback book presenting over 200 editorial magazine covers illustrated by herself over the last 5 years.

The book contains extensive articles and statements from 49 contributing Art Directors about magazine cover design. Her recent exhibition at Debut Art’s own gallery in central London was a huge success with attendance at the PV’s by many of the Art Directors who have commissioned her and many others. The exhibition featured the launch of the book and over 70 framed magazine covers Lisa has illustrated.

MDI Digital – Bo Bo Bon – Ravensburger Games

MDI Digital we’re commissioned to work on Ravensburger Games’ new kids release ‘Bo Bo Bon’. MDI create a full series of characters, but here’s the excitable, candy hungry Piñata monster who’s on of the games main protagonists.

Simon Prades – Tanzania – Usbek & Rica

Simon Prades was commissioned by Usbek & Rica to illustrate an article about Tanzania, where the Maasai people are being driven from their ancestral lands by companies specializing in decarbonization projects.

Melvin Galapon – Uniqlo – Future Now

Melvin Galalpon designed a T-shirt for Uniqlo’s pop-up shop at Tate Modern

The design is inspired by a mix of pixels, old technologies such as CRT televisions, sci-Fi files and 80/90’s video games. The piece tries to capture this playfulness while also trying to transport one to the future.

Lisa Sheehan – Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre – Pinocchio production

Lisa was commissioned by the theatre to create an illustration to promote its Christmas 2025 production of Pinocchio.

The illustration was created by Lisa using a combination of her own hand drawing and her CG skills. The piece is designed to look like a paper-engineered vintage toy theatre. The illustration was also animated by Lisa and the imagery is being used across multiple types of media.

Andreea Dumuta – Love at First Bite

This personal piece draws from vintage horror posters, baroque ornamentation, and mid-century pulp covers.

Andreea writes that “the style of this piece sits somewhere between ecclesiastical and camp, using saturated jewel tones and textured halftones to evoke an aged, print like feel. It’s a love letter to old horror and the beauty of excess. The series as a whole is blending vintage design and surreal humour with a modern twist. I love bold shapes, grainy textures, and that perfectly imperfect print look”.
