We are proud to announce that our latest Startworks program mentee is the fantastic Katie Thomas, a recent graduate from Falmouth University who blew us away with her incredible portfolio of concise conceptual illustration that showcases her flair for architecture, animals and isometric points of view.

Mary Woodin has worked with publisher Callisto media illustrating Witchcraft For The Home, a guide on how to practice spells, rituals and remedies for achieving a cleansed, protected, balanced and magical home. Illustrating ingredients from remedies and spells in a light, warm and welcoming colour palette, Mary’s images are an inviting glimpse into the practical world of witchcraft that avoids clichés, you won’t see a wand, pointy hat or cauldron in sight!
Hannah Riordan has created the cover illustration and end papers for ‘Red Sauce, Brown Sauce; A British Breakfast Odyssey’, the latest travel memoir from Felicity Cloake published by Mudlark. The cover captures the titular sauces in all their glory and incorporates key landscapes from throughout the book.
Beginning with lots of discussion with the client after receiving the brief, Lucy had to work within the brand guidelines and delivering an overview of how things have changed in paying while travelling over the years, from the 1940’s through to 80’s and to the current day. Preparing images for animation however provided a new set of challenges that Lucy was more than up for tackling;
Who better to ask then Hannah Bailey to illustrate ‘a game of nature and nurture’; PLANTED is a houseplant based board game by well-known game designer, Phil Walker-Harding (designer of Sushi Go amongst others) and produced by Buffalo Games. Hannah has created the artwork for the whole game – the box, the player boards, the cards and even the counters and resource tokens.

James Weston Lewis was asked to illustrate the new Folio Society edition of A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. The end result is a beautiful distillation of the atmosphere within the words, executed in James’s unique limited palettes.

Mary Woodin has illustrated an activity book for children, Exploring Birds for Callisto Media. With art direction from Scott Petrower, Mary illustrated birds for over 50 activities aimed at getting kids out into nature and learning;
“I gleaned a lot along the way too and enjoyed illustrating everything from how to make a bird feeder out of a recycled bottle and wooden spoons, to the anatomy of an owls’s eye.”
