Chris Wormell – First Prize in Red House Children’s book award

Huge congratulations to the ultra talented Chris Wormell who was awarded first prize in the ’books for younger children’ category in the Red House Children’s Book Award 2012 for ‘Scruffy Bear and the Six White Mice’. The award was decided by the harshest critics of all, the children themselves. Well done Chris!

Blackbear The Pirate

Ruth Palmer has completed some very pleasant covers and spreads for Blackbear the Pirate.  Commissioned by the author Steve Buckley, Ruth is now working on her third book in the series. The books follow a pirate bear and crew who are 'named after actual pirates from what historians call the Golden Age of Piracy' with Blackbear based on the famous Blackbeard. Ruth's warm painterly illustrations give the books a traditional classic feel.

Adam Stower Sketchbooks

Adam Stower's sketchbook work is featured in the Summer issue of Illustration magazine. He explains his fascination with sketchbooks and the role they play in helping him to develop story ideas and characters:

"I love using sketchbooks. They allow me to draw freely, un-fettered by any specific purpose or the parameters of a brief. I will often begin a doodle without a clear idea of what it is I’m drawing. They take on a life of their own and I’m frequently surprised by what they become. It’s one of the many delights that make me a fervent fan of sketchbooks."
