World Book Day Illustrator: Alex T Smith

Alex T Smith is the official illustrator for World Book Day 2014. He was thrilled to be asked to provide the illustrations for this year's promotional material. The brief was great fun, picking up on all of Alex’s favourite things to draw, appealing to children from nursery age to ten years old. Watch out for Alex as he tours the country this month visiting book shops, festivals and children's learning centres.

Now in its 17th year, World Book Day is the biggest celebration of books, reading, authors & illustrators of its kind, for children of all ages in the UK. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, it is marked in over 100 countries worldwide.

The major aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to discover the power of reading for pleasure by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. Every year, over 14 million £1 book tokens are distributed to over 46,650 educational establishments nationwide (nursery and pre-school through to secondary) – one for nearly every child in full-time education in the country.

Sweet Juice

Publicis Dublin have commissioned character designers Juice to work on a campaign for The Natural Confectionary Company.
Working to a relatively simple concept, Art Director Austin Richards asked Juice to design animal characters showing how you can mix and match the jellies. Each jelly is a different animal, and by mixing them you are treated to varied combinations - both in the look of the animal and the taste. "With a little imagination, children can create all sorts of different animals, each one as fun as the last".

Neal Layton: Mammoth Academy TV Series in Development

We're very excited to spread the news that Neal Layton's Mammoth Academy series is being developed into a children's TV series. Montreal based Sardine Productions, in partnership with Ontario's public educational media organisation TVO, plan to produce 52, eleven minute programmes for pre-schoolers.
Neal's fiction series, published by Hodder, is about Woolly mammoths Oscar and Arabella, along with their many friends, who embark on an exciting adventures at school. The Mammoth Academy is a place where learning means mucking about and getting your paws, trunk, woolly hair and tail into the thick of things and deliciously dirty! Neal has written and illustrated four books in the series to date.
Patricia Ellingson, TVO's Creative Head of Children & Parent's Media says "Mammoth is full of whimsy, heart and 'makes you think.' Every story encourages the audience to wonder, question and investigate the world around them."

Alex T Smith’s Ella and Primrose Now on Me Books

Me Books have just launched Alex T Smith's enhanced ebook editions of Ella and Primrose, narrated by actress and comedian Lucy Porter. Me Books have developed a special patented ‘draw and record’ technology allowing children to create interactive hotspots and record their own narration and sounds. The result is a brilliantly entertaining new way for families to enjoy reading stories together. These unique and personal editions can then be saved and treasured for years to come.

“Me Books have really brought my books to life with Lucy Porter’s exciting and very funny narration. I hope little readers (and big ones) have as much fun with these stories as I had creating them and working alongside the Me Books team.” Alex T Smith (represented by Arena)
