Lucy Davey illustrates Why It Matters for Pinter and Martin

Lucy Davey has created the cover art for the Why It Matters series of non-fiction books about different aspects of pregnancy, birth and parenting, published by Pinter and Martin.

Working with Allan Sommerville from Blok Graphic Design Studio, Lucy’s illustrations had to fit in with a series style that was already established for previous titles. Always up for a challenge, Lucy embraced series signature look while still remaining true to her own voice, applying it with a delicate touch to more sensitive topics in the books and being keen not to show an idealised view of motherhood.

Applying limited colour palettes and grounded imagery, Lucy went about creating her illustrations digitally on an iPad and then added texture in Photoshop, tweaking things until just right!
