Vince Pastiche / New York, New York Musical Poster
Vince Pastiche was commissioned by AKA NY to hand paint a poster for the upcoming Broadway musical New York New York, loosely based on the 1977 Martin Scorsese film of the same name (and that the Frank Sinatra original song was written for).
The agency came to us looking for an artist who could capture a classic New York moment, that would immediately draw in viewers and let them know to prepare for a romantic, hopeful New York story.
Vince hand-painted the background scene using references of the city from the 1940s, being careful to only include lighting structures, cars, and buildings that would have been standing at the time, like the iconic Chrysler Building.
Vince later painted the couple on a separate layer from photographs of dancers, and they were added to the scene to create the moment you see here. The warmth and hopefulness conveyed truly does make viewers want to “be a part of it!”
