The entire Bright team would like to offer a huge congratulations to Benji Davies, who's illustrated book On Sudden Hill with author Linda Sarah has been chosen as one of the twenty titles long listed for the globally prestigious CILIP Kate Greenaway Children's Book Award 2015!
The Kate Greenaway Medal was established in 1955, and is awarded annually for outstanding book illustration for children and young people. The winner receives a golden medal awarded by CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals), £500 worth of books to donate to a library of their choice and £5000 cash prize. Previous winners include world famous and publishing celebrities Jon Klassen, Catherine Rayner and Emily Gravett.
Bright were humbled to have been part of the nominations last year with Nicola O'Byrne's Open Very Carefully (Nosy Crow) and Yasmeen Ismail's Time for Bed Fred (Bloomsbury) - both of which went on to win The Waterstones Children's Book Award and V&A Best Picture Book Award independently. Last October we were also excited to see another five of our Bright creatives nominated for the Kate Greenaway award 2015, each of whom have incredible years ahead of them with new books, events and even more concepts to be sold!
It is a huge honour to be nominated for such a prestigious award as Kate Greenaway Children's Book Award and so we all would like to extend our congratulations to Gabriel Alborozo, Yasmeen Ismail, Nicola O'Byrne and Sebastien Braun for appearing on the exclusive list this year.
Making it through to the next round of the award, On Sudden Hill is the timeless and poignant story of friendship, adventure and childhood told through the delicate and colourful illustrations of Benji Davies. Internationally acclaimed Benji won Oscar's First Book Prize last year with The Storm Whale (Simon & Schuster) and continues to wow his avid fans with a highly anticipated follow up title publishing this year Grandad's Island (Simon & Schuster). With a golden year ahead of him already, we would like to wish the best of luck to Benji and On Sudden Hill when the shortlist is announced on Tuesday 17 March.
For nearly four decades, the AOIhas presented the most comprehensive and significant awards for illustration in the UK. Now, for the first time in the history of the organisation they welcome an international partner, the Directory of Illustration, to create the World Illustration Awards 2015, honouring the most inspiring illustration throughout the world.
Work entered into the World Illustration Awards will be reviewed by a jury of distinguished and international industry professionals. The competition shortlist reflects exceptional work by illustrators currently making an outstanding contribution to visual culture and is published in full on theaoi.com, which receives over 100,000 hits per month.
Award winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony at Somerset House, the major arts and cultural centre in the heart of London. Selected works will be displayed in their spectacular Terrace Rooms. Following this the exhibition tours to multiple venues across the UK, which receives approximately 40,000 visitors during its run.
Selected works will also be showcased in an accompanying publication, which will be circulated to all major commissioners of illustration.
The World Illustration Awards are open to illustrators working in ANY medium, context or geographical location. Work must be entered as either a New Talent entry or a Professional entry.
New Talent entrants are Undergraduate Students, Post-Graduate Students or Graduates within two years of graduation. Professional entrants are all other professional illustrators.
What Can Be Entered?
Work can be entered by the creator of the work (illustrator, student /new graduate) or by any third party such as an Agent, Designer, College, Publisher or Commissioner.
Work entered for the competition must have been created or published between 1st January 2014 to February 2015. Work in ANY medium can be entered in ANY category.
Entries can either be Single Image Entry (one image per entry) or Multiple Image Entry (up to 5 images per entry). Single or Multiple Entries can be entered in any category, depending on the size of the project or number of images within it. Multiple Entries are more expensive and should therefore be used to showcase different elements of the same project (multiple illustrations, spreads from a book and so on). Professional entries must have been commercially commissioned for all categories except Public Realm and Self-Initiated Work.
New Talent entries do not have to be commercially commissioned and should be entered into the category that is most relevant to the work. For example, a college project creating a picture book should be entered as a New Talent entry in the Children's Book Category.
Work must be entered into one of the 8Categories. These are very broadly defined to welcome work of all types and in all contexts where illustration is used.

Congratulations to Levi Pinfoldwhose stunning picture book, Black Dog, has won the prestigious CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal 2013.
The judges describe the book as ‘A visual treat, full of mood and atmosphere, the beautiful illustrations are full of detail and perfectly in keeping with the story … A timeless, thought-provoking book about facing up to anxiety, fears, and the black dog that visits some of us from time-to-time.’
Black Dog has also won first prize in the Children's Book Category in the year's AOI Illustration Awards AND the picture books category in the Coventry Inspiration Book Awards 2013.
One of the "design industry’s young leading lights" (Design Week 2011) Lizzie Mary Cullen continues her trail of awesomeness by scooping the Gold Design Award from the Association of Illustrators (AOI) exhibition,
We are proud to announce that an illustration by our wonderfully talented new artist, Anuska Allepuz, has been selected for use on the AOI's invitation and poster for the prestigious 'Images 36, The Best of British Illustration 2012' exhibition. Her delicate but modern approach to drawing shines through in this stylish design and will be a fantastic advert for all that is great about illustration today. Images is the premier and longest running jury-selected illustration competition, annual and touring exhibition in the UK. It provides the leading showcase for the great variety of contemporary illustration commissioned in the UK today, published alongside self-initiated promotional artwork and up-and-coming new talent. London Transport Museum, in partnership with the Association of Illustrators, is delighted to announce the 2011 Serco Prize for Illustration. This year, the theme is the River Thames and entries should feature the river as a central feature of London and London life. It is the task of entrants to create an illustration that draws attention to the benefits of the river.
The top three entries will receive a monetary award and may be used in an advertising and promotional campaign run by London Transport Museum. The top 50 entries will be displayed in an exhibition at London Transport Museum that will open in May 2011.
Prizes will be awarded in three levels
First prize £2000
plus display of the illustration as a poster on Transport for London services
Second prize £1000
Third prize £750
