PORTAS PILOTS

Andy Council has recently completed this magnificent mural of a horse in the Bedminster area of Bristol. It was commissioned as part of the Government’s ‘Portas Pilots’ – an initiative to get TV retail guru Mary Portas to help revitalise town centres. Bedminster’s bid, put together by local traders, community leaders and councillors, had the vision of turning the south Bristol suburb into a renowned ‘village’ centre for street art and street theatre, complete with a bicycle rickshaw service. Andy's large mural took several days of work to complete with the help of the Upfest team, the use of a scissor lift and dozens of cans of spray paint. The horse was chosen to reflect the area's mining past and it is purely coincidental that current news stories involve horses! Photograph by Paul Green Photography. Faces Of Evil

Ben Tallon has completed one of his ultimate jobs! Commissioned by WWE Magazine in the US, Ben has created a set design for a feature called 'Faces Of Evil.' A Creative Director whom Ben has known for a while spotted some banners Ben had created as Art Director of a feature film shot in Manchester, and so wanted a similar set of backdrops to use in a photo shoot. Ben says "They're all original artwork....(it was a) bit of a dream job for me this one since I'm a lifelong fan of pro wrestling". In these images we see AJ Lee, Daniel Bryan, Jack Swagger and Kane.

Café Rough Murals

Cafe Rouge on The Strand has been decorated in style by Alyana Cazalet. Working with FutureBrand, Alyana spent the summer on this big and challenging art commission. The Cafe Rouge chain is in the process of re-designing the interiors of all its restaurants in the UK and asked Alyana to design murals for their first new look. From the start the client was extremely pleased with Alyana's drawings and the 'idiosyncratic characters' on her first rough. From then she was given the 'green light' to create a slice of life in a French bistro, in London. Alyana says "I had positive comments from many other people friends/fellowartists/etc...who saw (the) murals since (the) Cafe Rouge opening in September........It was (a) challenging commission without any doubt, due to the scale ( 25 square meters), time pressure, public place (The Strand). ........ My inspiration came from French music and poetry as well as (the) streets of Paris and individual French cafe culture."
