SIMPLE MINDS

Ruth Rowland successfully uses her skills on this promotion for the Simple Minds upcoming tour.
She says "This three dimensional bust was created for the Simple Minds' The Greatest Hits Tour this April. I was commissioned to develop the lettering, working with a range of different marker pens, then scanning and fitting the script to a photo of the head. It was built up gradually until the final image was approved. It's surprisingly tricky to keep the lettering looking raw and not overworked - this vernacular lettering is influenced more by Outsider Art and hand drawn ephemeral signage than by traditional calligraphy. The designer sent over images of the scrawled graffiti on Jim Morrison's grave and the Abbey Road sign as the inspiration for the piece - the fumes from the markers probably helped a little too....there are also plans to use it on the related album which has yet to be released." Migy Blanco

This retro inspired illustration was created by Migy Blanco for the BBC’s classical music magazine. His great use of lettering  and clever mix of iconography provides a super stylish advert that shows what musical events are happening around the UK. This is just one of the many pieces that Migy has produced for magazines around the world

Patronaat Posters

BoomArtwork has done a great job with these 2 posters for the Dutch venue Patronaat. The illustrations are to promote two 'post-punk-psychedelic-space-rock mini festivals'. BoomArtwork says " I choose to go for a psychedelic school-board chalk treatment to make these posters really stand out when put up on walls around the city. They are going to be printed with a matt varnish to make them really look like a blackboard."
