God Loves You

Our ace paper-sculptress Gail Armstrong has been enjoying a busy period.

This recent commission from Brigham Young University, sees Gail creating the title page and inserts for an article in the BYU magazine. Gail says: "The client, Doug Thomas wanted it to have the feel of an illuminated manuscript, but not to look too 'old fashioned'. I kept the colouring clean and crisp with the sharp white background, and the imagery in the title page links to the imagery in the illuminated roman numerals that are used in the main text."

Oh For The Love Of Chocolate

If you are a chocolate lover, then you won’t be able to resist Echo Cherniks recent art for Oh Pour L'amour Du Chocolat.

The project was to create a luxurious art nouveau portrait of the Owner, Tara Cadmus, displaying her chocolates, resulting in a 36" tall Giclee print, posters, tags, and stickers. The Framed Giclee is installed at the shop in New York. If you’re based that way, go have a look.

A Metaphorical Solution

Andrew Selby’s illustrations never disappoint. And tackling thought-provoking subjects is where he’s at his best.

He is the cover illustrator for The Lancet Infectious Diseases Journal, having completed his second image for them he says: The articles "allow me to think conceptually about how to solve problems through metaphorical solutions - exactly the kind of work I enjoy doing. The bigger the puzzle - the more enjoyable it becomes!"

Simon Bartram at Gateshead Library

A bit of good library news for a change. Gateshead Library has just re-opened after a £2.5 million redevelopment. It's brand new children's library is now home to a few of Simon Bartram's illustrations from his book, Bob's Best Ever Friend in supersize on the walls. Simon, who lives locally to this important resource for the community, was on hand to do some Bob events for the opening weekend.

New Talent at Arena

Arena is proud to introduce another new artist, Kristyna Litten. We were immediately attracted to her limited colour palette and strong eye for composition. She recently graduated from Edinburgh College of Art where she developed a unique visual language which combines hand drawn elements, type and printmaking. Kristyna is already busy writing and illustrating her debut picture book, Chickens Can't See In The Dark, which will be published by Oxford University Press in 2012.

New Talent at Arena

Arena would like to introduce new recruit, Aleksei Bitskoff. A former LCC student and graduate of Camberwell College of Arts' MA Illustration course, Aleksei creates surreal, yet engaging worlds which captivate children and adults alike. We couldn't resist his fantastical creatures and mad monsters and we're not the only ones; Templar Publishing has already commissioned him for their forthcoming Monstrous Book of Monsters.
