Calling all mini writers and home school heroes! Claude creator Alex T. Smith has been keeping the grey cells sharpened during lock down with a host of tantalizing story ideas to help budding young authors get their creative juices flowing.
More and more we are discovering in these unprecedented times how important an outside space, or balcony is to our wellbeing. Some artists are particularly inspired by their gardens for their work.
Artists are often inspired by events, and with this ghastly virus effecting us all, and being party to the nation’s lockdown my artist Alexis Bruchon decided to create an image of how he see’s lockdown working in the home.
Andrew created a range of images for Audi’s all electric E-Tron car model. The project was entitled Superhero Lair.
The trailer for Lucy Rose Cartwright’s new book “Wild City” starts off with a city townhouse, revealed to be surrounded by all kinds of flora and fauna, some expected, but some… definitely unexpected! Flamingoes?!
These are the kind of reveals and unexpected communities we can expect to find in “Wild City”, an exploration of cities round the world and the creatures we share them with. Illustrated by Lucy Rose Cartwright and written by the award winning natural history author Ben Hoare, the book takes the reader from London to Singapore to Rio de Janeiro.
Initially approached to create the cover and a few sample spreads, Lucy’s illustrative approach was then used throughout the full book. Lucy worked closely with designer Laura Hall to make sure that all the correct animals and feature of each city were included before working up her sketches into full colour illustrations!
The danger with working on images like these however, is enjoying getting lost in the details a little too much, “I had to be strict on how much time I could spend on each page, it was very easy to get caught up in adding too much detail.” But being strict didn’t mean that Lucy didn’t enjoy the brief, “I really enjoyed this project and felt so grateful to be part of it. The most exciting time for me is when you first receive the brief and you sit down and sketch out all your ideas, I still sketch all of my roughs by hand rather than using my iPad as I love the physicality of drawing on paper. ”
Wild City is out via Macmillan Kids Publishing in Autumn 2020.

Dawn Cooper was asked by BBC Wildlife Magazine to create an illustration teeming with life to accompany an article that delves into the history of hedgerows. Excited to help illustrate their importance, Dawn set about making an image that looked wild and abundant, a time-consuming task but ultimately very satisfying!
Phosphor Art's Laura Redburn was approached by Baltimore Magazine to illustrate an article on the SPARC Center, using her signature collage style.
Phosphor Art's Bill Sanderson recently illustrated some title pages for J.R.R. Tolkien's Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
This self-inspired image speaks for itself -sums up the current situation in a lot of households by sitting and hoping it will all go away!

Quino Marin's striking illustration reflecting the isolation a big proportion of the world's people are facing over the next few months - however, there is optimism in the title that there will be end to it eventually.
Quino's take on the iconic 80's film Blade Runner and some illustrations from Quino's educational work of otherwise normal daily life scenes we normally take for granted.
