It’s the most wonderful time of the year for festive commissions! The latest project we’re delighted to share is a collaboration between montage maestro Peter Strain and the innovative Light House Cinema in Dublin.
Our cinema tickets are booked for the long awaited, third and final film, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which is released in cinemas this month. John Howe has worked in New Zealand for over 5 years as concept artist on Peter Jackson's epic film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy adventure story, The Hobbit. Alongside Alan Lee, he has played a pivotal role in the creation of the characters and environments from pre-production all the way through to post-production, learning new techniques along the way.
As John returns to his studio in Switzerland, we're also looking forward to exploring behind the scenes in The Appendices of the recently released Extended Edition DVD of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Carrie May created this wonderful cover for Nicholas Barreau’s ‘The Secret Paris Cinema Club’ published by Quercus. Carrie’s lovely illustration and typography have resulted in a beautiful cover with a handcrafted feel.
Kilian has been working with the brilliant Mondo again. This time on a poster for everyone's favourite 'Game Of Thrones' series, commissioned as part of their annual SXSW show. And also, the now SOLD OUT Argo poster, based on the the made up Sci-fi film that features in the film.
Towards the end of last year Lauren Mortimer illustrated 'Tequila Mockingbird'; a cocktail book published by Running Press. The book which contains recipes based on classic novels is now out and available to buy!
Lauren was commissioned to produce 40 full page illustrations, as well as the cover. She says "My job was to illustrate the recipes incorporating key themes from the book upon which it was based. I used only graphite, creating quite surreal images throughout; (Lord of the Mai Tai's, Charlie and the Chocolate Faketini, Gin Eyre are a few of the titles....), it was such a fun and great creative project for me...it also got a great review in the Evening Standard (news)paper."
John Howe is one of the concept artists for Peter Jackson's long awaited three-part film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. The first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is released on December 14th. John also worked on Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy and he has become linked with Tolkien's fantasy works throughout his career, illustrating most of his stories. John's illustrations also feature in the Official Tolkien: The Hobbit 2013 Calendar along with fellow concept artist Alan Lee.
