Chris Nielsen’s From Shore to Ocean Floor Out This Month (illustrator, Phosphor Art, Publishing Jobs)
"From sandy beaches to mysterious, inky depths, this beautiful book is the story of ocean exploration, from shore to ocean floor. Seen from space, Earth is a swirl of blue and white. The blue is Earth's oceans, which cover 70% of its surface... yet the ocean is the most unexplored region of our planet. From Shore to Ocean Floor is the story of how humans went from building the first boats, to discovering the secrets of the deep. Marvel at incredible scientific discoveries, be dazzled by some of the most exciting new species and admire the incredible men and women who took the very first steps below the surface. This spectacularly illustrated book comes from the author and illustrator duo of the award-winning Balloon to the Moon."

Lucy Rose has created an updated identity for Heron Valley; a Devon – based cider and juice producer, who also happen to be local to Lucy! The updated identity takes their majestic Heron icon and gives it a more artisanal, botanical feel.

The client and Lucy worked together to come up with a composition that could be complimented by Art Deco/ botanical borders, “this was a relatively fast process as I think the client and I had the same ideas in mind.” Opting for a vintage colour palette (a perfect match for Lucy), the final design soars with subtle sophistication but remains grounded with earthy warm tones.

“This project has been so great to work on and I enjoyed every bit of it. For a while I have wanted to work on some more packaging- based briefs and so when this job came up, I was thrilled to get another opportunity to. I think also the company being local to me and so friendly has just made the whole process even more special.”

ucy Rose Cartwright’s latest book trailer shows the cities we live in and who we share them with! (illustrator, publishing, The Artworks)

The trailer for Lucy Rose Cartwright’s new book “Wild City” starts off with a city townhouse, revealed to be surrounded by all kinds of flora and fauna, some expected, but some… definitely unexpected! Flamingoes?!

These are the kind of reveals and unexpected communities we can expect to find in “Wild City”, an exploration of cities round the world and the creatures we share them with. Illustrated by Lucy Rose Cartwright and written by the award winning natural history author Ben Hoare, the book takes the reader from London to Singapore to Rio de Janeiro.

Initially approached to create the cover and a few sample spreads, Lucy’s illustrative approach was then used throughout the full book. Lucy worked closely with designer Laura Hall to make sure that all the correct animals and feature of each city were included before working up her sketches into full colour illustrations!

The danger with working on images like these however, is enjoying getting lost in the details a little too much, “I had to be strict on how much time I could spend on each page, it was very easy to get caught up in adding too much detail.” But being strict didn’t mean that Lucy didn’t enjoy the brief, “I really enjoyed this project and felt so grateful to be part of it. The most exciting time for me is when you first receive the brief and you sit down and sketch out all your ideas, I still sketch all of my roughs by hand rather than using my iPad as I love the physicality of drawing on paper. ”

Wild City is out via Macmillan Kids Publishing in Autumn 2020.
