Welcome to Heathrow

Ruth Rowland has delivered spectacularly with a series of large posters for a BAA Welcome Campaign at Heathrow Airport. The idea was for recognisable London characters to welcome passengers on their arrival, eleven real characters have been used; from a Carnival Queen to a Chelsea Pensioner, a Doorman to a Policeman. Ruth wrote the word ‘Welcome’ in a style to reflect all their different personalities, they can be seen along the Terminal 4 Travelator at Heathrow.

Ruth and James

It's been a musical summer for lettering artist Ruth Rowland.

Hot on the heels of the Lennon job, she has just completed the latest James Blunt album. "Some Kind Of Trouble" plus his latest single, "Stay The Night" sees loose, brush style lettering created to work with the overall design of the packaging which has an old school, scrapbook feel. The layouts were put together traditionally with sellotape and paper and then photographed. The style is also taken through to James Blunt's website.

John Lennon’s 70th Birthday

More lettering mastery from Ruth Rowland who was thrilled to create the lettering for John Lennon’s "Gimme Some Truth Campaign" to commemorate his 70th birthday.

Overseen by Yoko Ono and EMI Music and using many samples of Lennon’s own writing, Ruth developed hand drawn lettering for use across the album to capture some of his light humour. The logo for the campaign was inspired by the small calligraphic self portraits that often accompanied his signature.
