Peter Higgs’s portrait

Kings College London commissioned Bill Sanderson to draw this wonderful portrait of Peter Higgs of Higgs boson fame. Peter Higgs was an Edinburgh University physicist working on the origins of mass and the related Large Hadron colider. A specialist area indeed,   but Bill managed to to bring life and interest to his subject matter in a way only he can.

The Goggle-Eyed Goats

Published on March 1st, Christopher Corr is excited about the launch of 'The Goggle-Eyed Goats'; a childrens' book he has illustrated for Andersen Press. Gallimard Jeunesse in Paris are also publishing the book on the same day, which just happens to be World Book Day. Christopher says "It's my first book with both houses. The story is set in Mali in Timbuktu and Mopti and is full of goats and mud mosques and desert scenes." The 'wonderfully vibrant and unusual picture book' will be launched at the Rowley Gallery in Notting Hill on March 1st.

Blackbear The Pirate

Ruth Palmer has completed some very pleasant covers and spreads for Blackbear the Pirate.  Commissioned by the author Steve Buckley, Ruth is now working on her third book in the series. The books follow a pirate bear and crew who are 'named after actual pirates from what historians call the Golden Age of Piracy' with Blackbear based on the famous Blackbeard. Ruth's warm painterly illustrations give the books a traditional classic feel.

Theatrical Supercar

Emma Rios has been working with Pencil Agency on this ad for Mercedes. Featuring the actress Emilia Fox, the ad uses Emma's skills as a set designer to create the backdrops for the story, which were then painted by a scenic artist. The ad is a good humoured  'to be continued' tale, framed by Emma's expressive lines.

Canadian born artist, Annie Wilkinson was one of 3 designers to launch the new website, with her idyllic ‘Plants’ baby apparel range.

Wordsation strives to curate artwork from artists who share in their excitement for creating one-of-a-kind baby apparel for your tiny treasure.

Wordsation offers original graphic designs on baby apparel. Their designs are created by a new designer each month exclusively for Wordsation. Each designer collection consists of 3 baby onesies that can be purchased as a subscription or as individual onesies. The designs in the collection are part of a theme, for example "Plants".

Sam Church draws live!

Our man Sam Church has recently been commissioned in an exciting live drawing role for The Tobacco Factory theatre, and their production of Shakespeare's King Lear. For this he has gone back to basics, armed with just a sketchbook and a handful of materials, drawing the action as it happens during the actors' readings, rehearsals and performances. His work will be exhibited in the theatre during the run of shows, providing a real insight into the backstage goings on, as a dramatic production is born!
